The Most Anticipated Foldable Phones of 2023 You Won't Want to Miss

These devices will impress even the most discerning smartphone users.

Innovation in the smartphone industry is the key to staying ahead of the curve, and foldable phones are leading the way. These devices offer innovative designs that provide larger screens in a compact form factor, generating new excitement and anticipation among tech enthusiasts. According to global research firm Counterpoint Research, the popularity of foldable smartphones is set to explode, with 26 million units predicted to be sold by 2023.

This surge in demand can be attributed to distinct features, including larger screen sizes and enhanced user experience. As technology continues to advance, foldable phones will likely remain at the forefront of the industry’s most cutting-edge advancements. In this article, we’ll delve into the world of the most anticipated foldable phones of 2023. We’ll take a closer look at the expected features, specifications and design elements that will set these devices apart, giving you a glimpse of what the future of smartphones might entail.

Honor Magic Vs

The Honor Magic Vs is a smartphone that has generated quite a bit of buzz in the tech world. It is the first foldable smartphone released by Shenzen-based Honor, a company that was previously owned by Huawei. Directly targeting competitors Apple and Samsung, this device offers impressive features and specifications, making it a strong contender in the market.

One of the standout features of the Honor Magic Vs is its innovative hinge mechanism. Unlike its competitors, this phone has a gearless hinge made with an aerospace-grade polymeric material, making it lightweight and easy to fold and unfold. This hinge design eliminates the common issue of unnecessary gaps found in other foldable devices.

In terms of specs, the Honor Magic Vs comes with a Snapdragon 8 Gen Plus 1 processor, a 5,000 mAh battery and 66W fast charging capabilities. The device also promises three years of operating system upgrades and five years of security patches.

However, the device is not without its drawbacks. The use of the Snapdragon 8 Gen Plus 1 chipset may not meet the expectations of some users who are accustomed to the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The latter chipset is widely regarded as the latest and most advanced flagship chipset in the market.

Additionally, the device does not support wireless charging and lacks an official IP rating for water and dust resistance, an important feature for users who desire a device that can withstand accidental spills or drops in water.

Despite these drawbacks, the Honor Magic Vs is sure to turn heads when it hits the market later this year. The Honor Magic Vs will be available for purchase in select countries starting in Q2 of this year, with a configuration of 12 GB RAM and 512 GB of storage for US$1,700.

Motorola Razr 2023

Motorola’s iconic Razr brand is set to make a comeback with the release of the Razr 2023, according to Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing. In 2020, Motorola brought back its iconic Razr brand by introducing a new foldable smartphone version. This move made Motorola one of the early pioneers in the foldable smartphone market, as they were among the first manufacturers to release a device with a flexible, bendable screen.

Yang suggested that the upcoming Motorola Razr 2023 would feature significant upgrades compared to its predecessor, the Razr 2022 model. The upgrades are expected to focus on the hinge and apps of the device, although no specific details were provided. By improving the hinge design, the Razr 2023 could provide a more seamless and durable folding experience, with less chance of creases or damage to the foldable screen.

The upcoming design is anticipated to showcase a massive front cover display that will surpass the dimensions of Samsung’s Z Flip 4 (1.9 inches diagonally) and Oppo’s Find N2 Flip (3.26 inches). This will enable users to perform more tasks and activities without flipping the device open, such as checking notifications, controlling media playback and accessing basic apps.

On March 2, 2023, Oppo, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has just announced the release of its latest foldable phone, the Find N2 Flip. The device features a new-gen Flexion hinge, which boasts an almost invisible crease line that is 63% narrower than its predecessor, the Find N Flip. Moreover, the redesigned hinge includes fewer parts, contributing to an overall cleaner and simpler aesthetic.

The Find N2 Flip comes with a large cover display, measuring a 3.26-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 382 × 720 pixels, compared to the 1.9-inch display on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. This generous display size enables the device to show up to six notifications at once, providing users with better multitasking capabilities. The device’s in-built fingerprint sensor also provides a secure and convenient way to unlock the device. Additionally, the device features Gorilla Glass 5 for enhanced protection against scratches and accidental drops.

The Oppo Find N2 Flip is available in two color options—Astral Black and Moonlit Purple—and is priced at around US$1,025.

All in all, the year 2023 promises to be an exciting year for foldable phones, with various manufacturers introducing their latest models to the market. As ‌demand for foldable phones continues to rise, it will be interesting to see how these devices evolve and transform the smartphone landscape in the years to come.
