An Express Ticket to the Future of Business

Hong Kong-based AMTD Group is making its mark on the startup ecosystem

Across the globe, established corporations are realizing that the only way forward is by integrating digital solutions into traditional business. In Hong Kong, financial services-focused conglomerate AMTD Group has set itself ahead of the pack by doing just this.

Most recently, AMTD signed on for the second year running as a Strategic Partner to Start-up Express, a pitch competition organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). The Group’s mentorship facilitated pivotal business connections and partnerships for participating startups.

“Start-up Express is well designed to assist startups in expanding their markets, building connections, enhancing brand exposure, and seeking partners,” says AMTD Group’s Chairman and CEO, Calvin Choi. “With AMTD as one of its key mentors, it allows the startups to gain first-hand information and personal experience.”

He adds that this is why AMTD attaches great importance to its partnership with HKTDC, recently collaborating with HKTDC to host the Startup Bootcamp at Entrepreneur Day (E-Day).

AMTD has broadened its support of startups in Hong Kong with the launch of AMTD SpiderNet, a one-of-a-kind business network in which business partners and investee startups can participate in synergistic collaborations.

“We always believe that we should establish multiple points of contact with our clients, partners, stakeholders, so the unique AMTD SpiderNet ecosystem is created to encourage cross-collaboration and cross-sales opportunity,” Choi explains.

With several successful startup acquisitions completed, AMTD Group is ready for its next chapter. By supporting the city’s thriving startup community and launching unique forays into innovation, the conglomerate is prepared for the future of business.

“As AMTD continues to expand, we will look for more innovative companies to join our SpiderNet ecosystem and broaden the diversity of our portfolio’s overall profile,” Choi says.

“More importantly, we are looking for passionate individuals with an entrepreneurial spirit and unique, creative, effective solutions to address the market’s needs by disrupting traditional customers’ journeys.”
