All hype or actually worth the price? Here are some Skims clothes that people rave about!
In 2022, American media personality Kim Kardashian’s shapewear brand Skims reached a market capitalization of US$3.2 billion. This massive net worth is a byproduct of a lot of factors, such as Kim’s popularity, the brand’s inclusive size range and adaptability (as we saw during the pandemic) to name a few. But perhaps the most important factor contributing to the business’s growth is the fact that it has genuinely good products.
If the “new year, new me” spirit has you in the mood for a wardrobe refresh, and you’re wondering what products at Skims might be worth it, here is a list of some of the company’s bestselling items to consider checking out.
Soft lounge long slip dress
You would be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t come across this dress on the internet. This long bodycon slip dress is said to be extremely flattering on all body types and is available in eight sizes, from XXS to 3X, and seven different colors. It costs US$78, which isn’t cheap by any means (none of the Skims products is, as you will see down the list). The dress garnered 110 million views on TikTok in 2021 and is so hard to get that articles were written about it when it finally came back in stock.
T-shirts
When you look at this t-shirt, your first instinct would be to think, “Why would anyone care so much about a basic tee?” But this, in fact, is a pretty popular clothing item on the Skims website. The t-shirt comes in nine colors and sizes (from XXS to 4X) and costs US$52. As of writing this article, three of the nine shades are sold out in a majority of sizes. The reason why this t-shirt is so popular is that its cotton/spandex fabric is extremely soft and breathable. It is known to perfectly hug your body, making you look and feel good no matter your body type.
Boxers
These boxers have been designed to look like you borrowed them from your boyfriend’s closet, especially because of the two seams that have been stitched onto their front. The boxers are loungewear pieces but are a bit on the sheer side. They are lightweight and non-restrictive. They are made of five per cent spandex, which makes them extremely stretchy. The only downside to these boxers is that the cloth around the legs rolls up as you move around. These boxers cost US$32 and come in nine different sizes (XXS-4X) and eight different colors. As of writing this article, two of the colors are out of stock.
Cotton rib tank
This ribbed cotton tank top is a piece that could find a place in everyone’s closet. They come in nine different colors and sizes and cost US$36. Those who have tried it out say that it is a fitted top but with enough stretchability to not feel restrictive. It gives you enough coverage to go braless and still be comfortable. One of the best features of the top is that it is perfectly cropped, meaning that it sits right where your high-waisted jeans do, giving you a polished look without any tucking. As of writing this article, four out of the nine colors this top comes in are low in stock.
Sculpting mid-thigh shorts
It would be impossible to write an article about Skims without highlighting at least one of its shapewear products. And so, the final product on this list is the sculpting mid-thigh shorts.
These look a lot like the biker shorts we were all wearing last year, but they come with the promise of smoothing out your thighs while shaping and lifting your butt. The shorts cost US$34 and come in nine colors and five sizes (from XXS/XS to 4X/5X).
For people with thick thighs, these shorts are said to be a Godsend against chafing. Plus, they have a double waistband, which helps smooth out the wearer’s stomach. Those who have tried and tested the product say that the shorts don’t roll up while walking. They are also very durable and don’t cut off circulation to the thighs (which seems to be a concern with a lot of other shapewear brands).
One commonality you must have noticed in all the Skims products is that the brand quickly runs out of stock. You have to wait for the opportune moment when the product is in stock and carries your size and your desired color. This scarcity value adds exclusivity to the products and possibly contributes to the company’s net worth.
It would naturally be hard to justify dropping over US$200 to buy everything on this list. But, based on what people say, the Skims product line is worth a try. Hopefully, you found something interesting on this list. But if the prices seem too steep, you can always test out the styles with some Skims dupes before buying the real thing.
