Step Up During Covid-19: Complete JomRun’s Virtual Half- Marathon At Home

Kuala Lumpur, 24th March 2020 – The recent enforcement of the Restriction of Movement Order due to increasing Covid-19 cases has seen many people practice social distancing and staying indoors to protect themselves. To help keep restlessness at bay, Malaysia’s leading sports app, JomRun, has launched a Covid-19 virtual half marathon.

The run began on Sunday, 15th March and will last until Wednesday, 15th June. Unlike a regular run, this half-marathon features a step counter, allowing participants to accumulate a distance of 5 KM or 21 KM over the next 3 months. This will enable participants to keep up a healthy home fitness routine during this period of limited mobility, thus boosting immunity and safeguarding their mental health while weathering the outbreak.

“We started JomRun to provide a platform for runners to come together in the spirit of staying active and healthy through running. In the wake of the coronavirus, we hope that this virtual run will help our runners stay fit while practicing social distancing. We look to continue fostering an ecosystem of passionate runners and the JomRun team is grateful for the opportunity to help the community as we face this outbreak together,” said JomRun Chief Executive Officer, Chang Yi Hern.

While attempting to complete the virtual run, JomRun recommends that participants pair their daily step counts with a few other strength and cardio workouts like push-ups and squats, among others to introduce variety into their daily home fitness routines. To help with this, JomRun has introduced a few visual aids on its platform so that Malaysians are able to exercise properly and safely at home.

Participants of JomRun’s Covid-19 virtual run will receive race packages containing health and sanitization products like hand sanitizers and face masks to help them maintain good hygiene standards while exercising. The race packages will be mailed directly to participants’ homes.

Furthermore, JomRun will be looking to use part of the proceeds from the Covid-19 virtual run to purchase hand sanitizers and face masks, which will be donated to schools, once they reopen, and private hospitals here in Malaysia. This effort is in response to a recent report by The Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) stating that private hospitals here in Malaysia are facing shortage of face masks and protective gear in light of the coronavirus .

Through this virtual half-marathon, JomRun aims to continue fostering positivity and good fitness practices among Malaysians. Ultimately, the company believes that a strong immune system and a healthy mental state through exercise should not be compromised in the battle against Covid-19.

What Does Gen-Z Want in a Career?

Most managers feel that Gen-Z is “difficult to work with”, entitled and easily offended. The prevalent notion is that this generation is prone to distraction, lacks tech skills and is deficient in productivity and motivation. They want to butt heads, have their say and not listen. Harsh, yes. These studies perhaps ignore that most of the Gen-Z workforce graduated and entered the workforce during COVID-19.
