LinkedIn Launches Tools to Boost Job Seekers' Safety and Confidence

The platform has launched updates empowering job seekers with essential information and verification tools.

Networking platform LinkedIn has introduced a range of tools to empower job seekers to confidently navigate their job search process while ensuring their safety and security. The latest updates include the implementation of verifications on job posts, enabling the display of verified information about job posters or their companies. These verifications encompass various aspects, such as affiliation with official company pages, verification of work emails or workplaces and government ID verification through the talent management system CLEAR.

Enhanced user verification process

In April 2023, the Microsoft-owned job portal joined forces with CLEAR, which specializes in expedited security services at airports and venues. The partnership focuses on strengthening the verification process for users in the United States, ensuring alignment between the name on their government-issued ID and the name displayed on their LinkedIn profile. After verifying their identity, LinkedIn users will see a new “Verifications” section on their profiles. A prominent “Government ID” banner with a checkmark indicates that the user’s government ID has been verified. CLEAR verification is free but requires a U.S.-based phone number and government ID for authentication.

“When you see verifications associated with a job posting, it means there is information about the company or job poster that has been confirmed. These verifications are designed to provide signals of authenticity, so you can make more informed decisions on whether you want to engage with opportunities,” the company wrote in a blog post.

Strengthening account verification

Additionally, LinkedIn has enhanced its efforts to verify account authenticity, providing users with a greater chance of discovering relevant professional opportunities. The platform now offers an “About this Profile” overview, indicating the profile’s creation date, last update, and whether the member has verified their phone number and/or work email.

Moreover, LinkedIn has taken measures to alert users about messages containing high-risk content that could potentially compromise their security. For instance, users will receive warnings when a message suggests shifting the conversation to another platform, which can be indicative of a scam. These alerts not only serve as a protective measure but also provide the option to report suspicious content without notifying the sender.

In addition to these security features, the platform has introduced LinkedIn’s Career Starter Guide, a comprehensive resource designed to assist individuals embarking on their career journey. The guide offers insights into the fastest-growing industries, tips for navigating the current job market challenges and valuable information to help job seekers find the right fit for their aspirations.
