Fort Worth Hosts New LG Electronics Facility for EV Charger Assembly

The opening of LG Electronics’ EV charger factory in Texas reflects a growing demand for electric vehicle support infrastructure.

LG Electronics has initiated its first U.S. production facility for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Fort Worth, Texas, aiming to bolster the national EV charging infrastructure and generate employment opportunities. The facility’s inauguration was marked by an event attended by Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker and LG executives Alec Jang, H.K. Suh and Nicolas Min. This development is part of LG’s strategy to expand its presence in the EV charger market by providing high-quality charging solutions and services.

As per President Jang, this facility marks a significant milestone for LG. “LG will leverage the reliability and uncompromising quality of its chargers, maintenance services and vertical sales capabilities with the goal of becoming a leader in the EV charging business around the world,” he asserted.

Mayor Parker commended LG’s enduring presence in the Fort Worth community. “With this global leader choosing to establish its U.S. manufacturing base for EV chargers and creating new jobs here. We take pride in knowing that LG’s advanced EV charging stations that will be deployed across the United States will be built right here in Fort Worth,” she said.

A milestone for LG’s EV charger production

Located in Fort Worth, the factory boasts an annual capacity exceeding 10,000 units and employs 100 percent green power, reflecting LG’s commitment to sustainability. The establishment of this plant is expected to create numerous tech jobs in the region and support LG’s long-term presence in the area, where it has operated a large distribution center for three decades.

Michael Kosla of LG Business Solutions USA highlighted the strategic role of this factory in LG’s broader plan to bolster the electrification of America. The facility will produce Level 2 and Level 3 EV chargers, facilitating new business opportunities for various entities to support America’s shift towards electrification with owner-operated charging stations. These stations will allow proprietors to set their own rates and retain generated profits, addressing the increasing demand for accessible and efficient EV charging solutions across the U.S.

First products and future plans

The Fort Worth factory’s initial products include the Level 2 AC Chargers, designed for easy installation and featuring adjustable current settings for optimal power output. These chargers have been certified by UL Solutions and the ENERGY STAR program, ensuring their compliance with stringent safety and energy efficiency standards. Additionally, LG plans to start assembling its first Level 3 DC Charger in the second quarter, offering fast charging solutions and the potential for additional revenue through advertising.

Aligning with sustainability and electrification goals

LG’s foray into EV chargers aligns with its broader electrification strategy to encourage the transition to more sustainable energy usage through a suite of electrification products for homes, including energy-efficient appliances and energy management systems. The Fort Worth facility represents a step towards LG’s goals of contributing to the growth of the EV charging infrastructure and supporting the transition to a more sustainable and electrified future.
