The strategic collaboration will transform vehicles into mobile workspaces.
In today’s evolving work landscape, hybrid work has gained significant momentum. Hybrid workers seek flexible and efficient collaboration methods, regardless of location or device. In response to this need, technology giant Cisco and automotive leader Audi have joined forces to enhance mobile car collaboration experiences for professionals on the go.
In conjunction with Volkswagen Group’s software company CARIAD and Samsung subsidiary HARMAN, the strategic collaboration introduces Cisco’s web conferencing app, Webex, into Audi models. Significantly, Webex will be the first collaboration app for flexible work to be integrated into select Audi 2024 model-year vehicles.
Drivers of select Audi vehicles can access the Webex app through the in-vehicle Audi Application Store created by CARIAD and HARMAN. Although the platform is currently geared towards a limited range of Audi vehicles, other Volkswagen Group brands are anticipated to embrace this advanced technology in the near future.
“We’re on a mission to transform the connected car into another extension of the hybrid workplace,” said Jeetu Patel, the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Security and Collaboration at Cisco.
Safe and seamless collaboration for modern workers
This partnership between Cisco and Audi aims to cater to the needs of modern, flexible remote work cultures while placing a strong emphasis on safety. By providing people with secure access to elevated work experiences that can be seamlessly integrated into their lifestyles, they can effectively work from any location with peace of mind. Users can enjoy the following benefits:
Leave your phone behind
With the Webex app available for download from the Application Store on the Audi vehicle’s infotainment system, drivers can start their meetings without requiring a phone. The store ensures that all apps in the vehicle meet the Volkswagen Group’s high safety standards. With this hassle-free setup, drivers can effortlessly move from Webex meetings on their electronic devices to in-car meetings without compromising safety.
Safety features
To prioritize safety, Webex automatically switches to an audio-only mode when the car is in motion. This allows drivers to participate in meetings without the need to divert their attention from the road. Once parked, drivers can conveniently view meeting participants, shared content and closed captioning, enhancing their collaborative experiences.
AI-enhanced meetings
Drivers can benefit from Webex’s built-in AI features, including excellent noise cancellation and voice optimization. This advanced technology ensures that drivers can communicate clearly, without any disturbance from background sounds such as roadway noise or construction, enabling productive and distraction-free meetings on the go.
According to Cisco, the Audi App Store is set to be accessible in various new production models, namely the A4, A5, Q5, A6, A7, A8, Q8 e-tron and e-tron GT, starting from July 2023. These models will be available in Europe, the U.S., Canada, Mexico and other overseas regions.
