The partnership aims to address healthcare challenges with generative AI.
Cognizant and Google Cloud have teamed up to extend their collaboration, aiming to create large language model (LLM) solutions for the healthcare industry with Google’s generative AI technology. The main objective of this joint effort is to refine administrative processes in key areas such as appeals and grievances, along with member and patient engagement.
The initiative will integrate the capabilities of Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform—a unified machine learning (ML) platform designed to simplify the development and scaling of ML models—with Cognizant’s AI expertise and knowledge of the healthcare sector.
Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant, mentioned the collaboration’s potential to address various challenges in the healthcare sector using generative AI. He pointed out the benefits of integrating advanced AI into healthcare administrative processes.
Administrative tasks in healthcare often involve intricate procedures, with professionals required to manage and interpret information across multiple channels. LLMs have the potential to simplify these tasks, reducing manual input, enhancing accuracy and potentially leading to cost savings. One application of LLMs could be in automating the translation of legal contracts into clear payment guidelines, streamlining the work of payment specialists.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, commented on the role of generative AI in healthcare and the significance of the partnership with Cognizant in providing solutions for the industry.
Both companies emphasize the importance of data privacy and security. Their commitment is reflected in their respective responsible AI principles and data governance standards. Google Cloud’s infrastructure aligns with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance standards, ensuring data protection and upholding client-specific security and privacy measures.
In addition to the current collaboration, Cognizant is a Global Systems Integrator partner for Google Cloud and will participate as a Luminary Sponsor at the 2023 Google Cloud Next conference. In 2021, Cognizant established a dedicated Google Cloud Business Group (GBG) to support cloud modernization for shared clients. Cognizant holds several Google Cloud specializations and is supported by a team of Google-certified professionals.
In a related development from June 2023, the alliance between Google Cloud and Jasper AI resulted in a significant milestone: making Jasper accessible to millions of customers via the Google Cloud Marketplace. This strategic partnership not only integrated a new foundation model into Jasper’s AI Engine through Google’s Vertex AI but also introduced exciting enhancements to Jasper Everywhere, the web browser extension.
