TikTok Launches “Add to Music App” Feature for Easy Song Saving

TikTok collaborates with major music platforms to allow users to save and enjoy tracks on their music apps.

In a collaborative effort with major music streaming giants like Amazon Music and Spotify, TikTok has introduced the “Add to Music App” feature for users. This new functionality allows music enthusiasts to save the songs they discover on TikTok directly to their favorite music streaming services.

Known for its role as a global hub for music discovery, TikTok frequently sparks viral trends that influence music consumption on streaming platforms. With the introduction of the “Add to Music App” feature, TikTok aims to bridge the gap between song discovery on its platform and continuous enjoyment on users’ chosen music streaming platforms.

User-friendly feature for enhanced music experience

Users will notice an “Add Song” button next to track names at the bottom of TikTok videos in their For You Feed. This button facilitates the easy saving of songs to the streaming service of their choice. Upon pressing this button for the first time, users can select their preferred music streaming service, where the track will be saved to a default playlist. Options to add the song to a new or existing playlist are also available. The selected streaming service becomes the default for future track saves, although users can change this in their settings at any time. The feature is also accessible from an artist’s Sound Detail Page on TikTok.

Industry leaders endorse TikTok’s new feature

Ole Obermann, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, highlighted TikTok’s powerful role in music promotion and discovery. The “Add to Music App” feature further strengthens this by providing a direct connection between discovery on TikTok and engagement with full-length songs on the user’s preferred streaming service, benefiting both music fans and artists.

Karolina Joynathsing, Director of Business Development for Amazon Music, and Sten Garmark, Vice President and Global Head of Consumer Experience at Spotify, expressed their support for this feature. They emphasized its role in enhancing music discovery and listening experiences for users. They noted that the feature aligns with their goals of facilitating easy access to music and fostering deeper connections between artists and listeners.

Expanding global reach

As of December 14th, 2023, TikTok announced the expansion of “Add to Music App” to 19 additional countries, including Canada, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and others, making it easier for a broader audience to enjoy music discovered on TikTok across various platforms and devices.
