Digital Entertainment Asset Pte. Ltd. (“DEA”) and Alibaba Pictures (“Ali Pictures”), a media entertainment company under the Alibaba Group, have entered a partnership agreement to develop “WORLDFLAGS” in China. “WORLDFLAGS” is a multimedia personification (or “samuraification”) project of national flags, and it is a project which DEA holds the exclusive worldwide distribution rights. Alifish, a business unit under the Alibaba Group that deals with IP business, will be the exclusive licensor for “WORLDFLAGS” in Greater China.
In the future, WORLDFLAGS plans to develop various entertainment contents in China, including e-commerce and the development of original merchandise for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
What is “World Flags”
WORLDFLAGS is a mixed media project that introduces the history and culture of the world by personifying each country’s flag as a handsome samurai warrior.
WAMICO Inc. owns the original intellectual rights, and DEA has the exclusive worldwide rights to distribute it.The message of the work is to promote an understanding of diversity and multiculturalism through personifying national flags and to encourage people to learn about various countries.
With the concept of “Education x Entertainment” in mind, the project started as a flag illustration book to introduce the meaning, origin, design and trivia of national flags in an easy-to-understand manner. In the future, DEA plans to make games, cartoons, and other media as a “world peace project” and move beyond the realm of education.
The release of WORLDFLAGS on the PlayMining platform is a hot topic that has been picked up by influencers around the world on social media and IT news sites.
