Kuala Lumpur, 30th April 2020 – The spike of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia has led to people being more vigilant about cleanliness when they are out and about. However, good hygiene practices should begin in one’s home, and KOHLER, a global leader in the design and innovation of kitchen and bath products, is calling for Malaysians to be more careful, especially with toilet cleanliness, as research has shown that the virus particles can be found in faecal matter.
It has been widely known that the virus spreads via respiratory droplets – produced whenever the infected person coughs or sneezes. However, there has been evidence of the virus also being present in faecal matter, based on new research from China. Hong Shan, MD, PhD, of Fifth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, and colleagues noted that the gastrointestinal tract is a welcoming environment for the virus.
Another study, released by City University’s Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering in Hong Kong meanwhile has found that up to 80,000 polluted water droplets can be released by a toilet flush and left suspended a metre in the air for hours if the lid is left up when flushing.
Believing that a person’s bathroom should be their sanctuary, KOHLER stresses the importance of hygiene while using a bathroom as well as after. Among the good practices include regularly cleaning and disinfecting the toilet, washing hands with soap after using the toilet, and not using mobile phones when in the toilet as these could potentially increase the risk of spreading the virus.

It also features the CleanCoat coating which repels dirt and excess liquid on the 30° beveled rim surface.
In addition, users can avoid unnecessary touching of the surfaces with its Touchless Flush technology which can be activated by simply passing a hand over the cistern, where a traditional flush button would be. The stacked seat design ensures effortless lifting of seat cover from the seat ring without touching the bowl front accidentally. KOHLER also offers Slim Functional Seat option, incorporated with a sensor night LED light and deodorisation to provide an even more hygienic and comfortable bathroom experience.
