The new advancements empower users with enhanced visual exploration capabilities and immersive virtual shopping features.
Google has unveiled various innovative features for its computer vision-powered app, Lens, and its online shopping tool, Google Shopping. But what exactly is the Lens app? It is a powerful tool that harnesses the capabilities of your smartphone camera and artificial intelligence to go beyond object identification. It can comprehend and provide a range of interactive functionalities, including scanning, translation, shopping and more.
For example, you can discover a flower’s identity with Google Lens. Just point your smartphone camera at the flower, capture an image and let Lens instantly recognize and provide detailed information, including its name, species, care tips and related resources.
Unlock skin insights
In the latest update, Google Lens allows users to search for skin conditions that closely resemble what they observe on their own skin. Users can effortlessly discover visual matches that provide valuable insights for their search by simply capturing a picture or uploading a photo through Lens. This remarkable feature extends its usefulness beyond skin conditions, helping users describe and understand other peculiarities on their bodies, such as lip bumps, nail lines or hair loss on the head.
Through this update, Lens opens doors to self-exploration, offering invaluable insights and empowering users to navigate the intricacies of their own unique physiology.
Transform virtual shopping
Google has also taken online shopping to new heights by introducing an immersive virtual try-on tool on its Search platform. Bid farewell to the days of uncertainty and hesitation in buying apparel online. With this feature, users can now embark on a visual journey, seeing exactly how clothes will look on them before committing to a purchase.
The tool provides a realistic depiction of how apparel appears on various models. By leveraging an advanced generative AI model, Google’s technology accurately portrays how garments drape, fold, cling, stretch and create wrinkles and shadows on diverse models posing in various stances.
To ensure inclusivity, the selection of models encompasses a broad spectrum of sizes, from XXS to 4XL, representing different skin tones based on the Monk Skin Tone Scale (MST) and diverse body shapes, ethnicities and hair types. Monk’s scale, a 10-shade system aimed at enhancing color and racial diversity in search results. This scale ensures more accurate and inclusive representation across various skin tones within Google’s search algorithms. Overall, the virtual try-on solution aims to revolutionize the online shopping experience, empowering users to make informed decisions about their clothing choices more confidently.
Shoppers in the United States can also virtually try on women’s tops from various popular brands available on Google, such as Anthropologie, Everlane, H&M and LOFT. Simply by tapping on products marked with the “Try On” badge in Search, users can select the model that best aligns with their preferences. This virtual try-on feature operates in conjunction with the Shopping Graph, an extensive database encompassing a vast range of products and sellers worldwide. As time progresses, this technology will expand to include more brands and items.
Google Lens and Google Shopping are equipped with innovative features that utilize computer vision and AI technology to provide a wide range of interactive functionalities, from object identification and translation to skin condition search and immersive virtual try-on. This could revolutionize the way users explore (and understand) their surroundings and make informed decisions in online shopping.
