Hong Kong – December 10, 2018 OWN Academy’s Founder and CEO Natalie Chan has been chosen as one of the 40 delegates from 7,000 Global Shaper candidates from around the world. “Davos 40” is a delegation under the age of 33 who will be attending the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Annual Meeting 2019 on the 22nd—25th of January. Set in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, the forum will bring together world leaders to discuss global, regional and industry agendas. Previous years have hosted Jack Ma, Justin Trudeau, Malala Yousafzai and other distinguished guests making WEF an elite playground to share, inspire and discuss initiatives set on a mission to improve the state of the world.
One of the WEF’s 14 system initiatives is focused on Shaping the Future of Education, Gender and Work. Chan’s ambition to revolutionize education will contribute to a global dialogue for what needs to change in education systems; one of the undeniable problems include the widening gap between the focus of traditional education and what today’s industries require from students. Recognizing the imminent impact of the 4th industrial revolution, Chan and her work at OWN Academy aims to be the world’s leading education innovation company, create a new ecosystem of learning by connecting industry leaders to students and schools through skills training, mentorship and internships.
To be selected as one of Davos 40 is a huge honor; this puts OWN Academy and its philosophy at the world spotlight, giving OWN Academy an opportunity to create partnerships with global leaders and representing Hong Kong at the forefront of global education. Chan will be ready to pitch her future of school idea to investors at Davos.
The purpose of OWN Academy is to solve the employability gap of the future. Aligning with WEF’s “Future of Jobs Report”, this education innovation company will be launching their internship and skills training program, OWN 20XX, starting January 2019 and their OWN Gap Year program starting September 2019 for high school students. These programs will tackle 21st century skills contextualized within OWN Academy’s philosophy and inspired by Chan’s career as a female engineer, film producer, and an education entrepreneur.
OWN Academy’s take on learning is unique and is gaining widespread attention. Drew Binsky, a social media and global influencer with more than 1.3 million followers, will be coming to Hong Kong on the 18th of December to feature Chan and OWN Academy. A Hong Kong celebrity will be creating a 16-episode TV series on education and Chan will be featured as a distinguished guest in a 40-minute episode sharing her education story and why she built OWN Academy.
