Last Friday, AWS & WHub hosted StartupSphere, a dynamic gathering that brought together over 100 attendees from Hong Kong’s vibrant tech ecosystem. The event offered valuable insights into the evolving landscape of AI and Web3 technology and entrepreneurship in the unique context of Hong Kong.
Jonah Lau, Head of Portfolio at Animoca Brands, highlighted Hong Kong’s strategic position and important role in the global Web3 landscape. “Hong Kong perfectly combines the strengths of East and West, especially now given the geopolitical divergence. Web3 is all about convergence—this city embodies that,” Lau observed.

He further emphasized the city’s ideal scale for networking opportunities, noting that “Hong Kong is a great base to operate from and companies like Animoca Brand are supporting the local businesses here. Hong Kong is small enough and big enough at the same time: I think
from day 1, Web3 is very much a borderless game, and going global from day one while leveraging Hong Kong as your testing ground, I think that’s going to set you up very nicely.”
Adding to this, Karena Belin, CEO of WHub and Founding Board Member of Web3 Harbour asserted confidently while promoting the W3H’s Web3 Blueprint. “Right now Hong Kong is the place to be when it comes to innovation in not only TradeFi but also the DeFi space. This is supported by the commitment of the local regulators to provide regulatory clarity and look for cross-boarder collaboration.”

Votee AI CTO and AWS Community Builder, Jacky Chan, captivated audiences at StartupSphere with his vision for AI-driven entrepreneurship. He boldly predicted the rise of “one-person startups” fueled by AI agents as a complete workforce. “We are expecting one-person startups where all employees are AI agents. This isn’t just a future possibility; it’s happening now,” Jacky asserted, citing Votee AI’s own AI-driven code development. Embracing a philosophy of constant reinvention, directly aligned with AWS’s “Day One” principle, Jacky concluded with AWS powerful mantra: “Every day is a new day. Everyday is day one.”
The event exemplified Hong Kong’s unique capabilities of fostering knowledge exchange and community building within the startup ecosystem. By bringing together diverse perspectives on Web3 and AI development, entrepreneurship, and the integration of cross industry perspectives, the gathering provided attendees with actionable insights and valuable networking opportunities.
As Hong Kong continues to position itself as a hub for technological innovation, AWS, and WHub.io remain dedicated to facilitating connections and conversations that drive the city’s digital transformation and economic growth forward.
