Through British Gas PeakSave, Samsung brings smart, efficient energy solutions to UK homes.
Samsung Electronics has announced a collaboration with British Gas to enhance energy management in homes across the UK. The partnership extends the capabilities of SmartThings Energy by integrating British Gas’ PeakSave incentive program, offering users the opportunity to optimize energy efficiency with minimal use effor.
Chanwoo Park, Executive Vice President at Samsung Electronics, highlighted the synergy between the companies, emphasizing the enhanced customer ability to manage energy consumption effortlessly.
British Gas, with its longstanding history since 1812 as the pioneer utility company, serves 10 million U.K. homes and businesses, advocating for energy conservation and carbon footprint reduction to support the U.K.’s goal of achieving net zero by 2050.
The collaboration’s focal point is integrating SmartThings Energy’s Auto Demand Response (Auto DR) feature with the British Gas’ PeakSave program. This feature incentivizes customers to reduce electricity usage during peak demand times by automatically adjusting appliance settings, thereby earning rewards. SmartThings Energy facilitates this through various mechanisms, such as enabling AI Energy Mode on compatible appliances, turning off specific appliances and adjusting temperatures smartly for heating systems and thermostats. The platform also alerts users of peak events, allowing those without Auto DR-compatible appliances to participate in energy saving.
Samsung has already rolled out its DR service in various regions, including Seoul, California and New York, in 2023. The company plans to expand collaborations further and introduce comprehensive programs supporting the Net Zero Home initiative globally. Recent achievements include the energy-efficient residential community in Brobyholm, Sweden (November 2023) and the Southern Company project unveiled at CES 2024.
