The partnership offers advanced vehicle control and home appliance management for their customers.
Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation have partnered with Samsung Electronics to integrate Samsung’s “SmartThings” Internet of Things (IoT) platform with their connected car services. This collaboration, announced on January 3, aims to dissolve the barriers between living and mobility spaces, thereby enhancing the overall value of driving experiences before, during and after travel.
The Car-to-Home service, a key feature of this partnership, will enable Hyundai and Kia customers to control various home appliances remotely using touch and voice commands through the in-car infotainment systems while driving. Conversely, the Home-to-Car service will allow users to check their vehicle’s status, control functions and manage charging schedules before and after driving, using AI speakers, televisions and smartphone applications.
This integrated approach is made feasible by harmoniously blending Hyundai and Kia’s connected car services with Samsung’s “SmartThings” IoT platform. This collaboration is anticipated to offer customers a variety of practical applications in their daily routines, ensuring seamless connectivity experiences. Additionally, customers can expect to receive updates through Over-the-Air (OTA) and USB-based methods to maintain this seamless connectivity.
